“世外桃源”英语怎么说？| 考研阅读真题·语句精讲（三）

承接上文，来自2013年考研真题·第三篇阅读的一句话

1.语法讲解

句式结构是【...has done..., as ...... 】，随着....，某某某怎么怎么样

from... to....，表示范围，是标准的举例模板，可用于作文中的举例处

2.语言点讲解

①utopia [ju:'təupiə]

“乌托邦”，理想世界，也就是我们中文所说的【世外桃源】

(an imaginary perfect world where everyone is happy)

②grow + adj. 【变得】

等于become，不过耗时更长，强调【渐渐】这个概念，就像植物生长一样，不是一下就开花结果

The skies grew dark and it began to rain.

天渐渐黑了,又下起雨来。

The air had grown thick and smoky.

空气变得混浊，烟雾弥漫。

③unfashionable “过时的，不流行的”

(not popular or fashionable at a particular time)

④appreciation

第一个意思是大家比较熟悉的义项【欣赏】

第二个意思是【理解，了解】，算是熟词僻义了

understanding of what sth involves

The course helped me to gain a deeper appreciation of what scientific research involves.

这门课程帮助我更深入地了解科学研究所包含的内容。

I had no appreciation of the problems they faced.

我没有理解和体谅到他们所面临的困难。

⑤asteroid ['æstərɒɪd] 【小行星】

(one of the many small planets that move around the sun, especially between Mars and Jupiter)

句中asteroid strike指【行星袭击】

去掉首字母a就是steroid 【类固醇】

类固醇 ≈ 兴奋剂，

举重运动员有时会非法服用类固醇增强肌肉和力量。

作用就像大力水手吃的菠菜，

相关表达sth on steroids，

某事物像服用了类固醇，或者兴奋剂一样 = 其比一般的更强大，更厉害，

延伸出来一个句型 A is B on steroids.

A是升级版/强化版/进化版的B

●TikTok is YouTube on steroids.

TikTok就像是打了兴奋剂的YouTube

●Iphone Iphone X is Iphone on steroids.

Iphone x 是升级版的

⑥epidemic [epɪ'demɪk] 【流行病】

(an epidemic of a particular disease somewhere affects a very large number of people there and spreads quickly to other areas)

=infectious disease 互为同义替换

Even if a vaccine were ready within a year, it would be too late to stem the current epidemic in China.

即使能在一年内推出疫苗，对于遏制中国当前的疫情也为时已晚。
